Rob's approach for private lessons is very much based on a conservatory model and the lessons are treated as a comprehensive musical education. Students are taught playing technique along with the technical aspects of the specific instrument or focus along with practical application, musicality and music theory.
Students may focus on voice or any of our instrument speciaties. Advanced students may begin to study songwriting and composition. Students with a wide interest may also work on multiple instruments and a vocal/instrumental performance approach such piano/voice or guitar/voice in order to learn to accompany oneself while singing.
We use a standard three level music theory program Alfred's Essentials of Music Theory Complete with various texts for advanced theory and composition students.
All band and orchestral instrument programs are taught using the Rubank method books which provide consistency throughout our programs. This includes woodwinds, brass, percussion and bowed strings.
Our guitar and plucked strings programs use various method programs depending on the instrument and the interests and needs of the student. Our modern guitar program is a proprietary program design specifically by our master guitar instructor.
Our percussion & drum kit program includes the Rubank method and use of the 1001 Drum Grooves program.
Our Piano and keyboards program uses various method programs chosen for for the student with consideration toward age, and interest. Our intermediate keyboard students are able to choose a specialty such as classical, jazz, pop, country or several other areas of focus.
Woodwinds: flute, saxophone (alto, tenor and bari), panpipes, clarinet, oboe and basson. (beg & intermediate with flute and sax advanced)
Brass: trumpet, tuba, trombone, euphonium/bariton and flugal horn. (beg & intermediate)
Strings: violin, viola, cello and bass. (beg & intermediate)
Plucked strings: electric guitar, acoustic guitar, classical guitar, spanish guitar, electric bass guitar, 5string banjo, tenor banjo, plectrum banjo, Celtic folk harp, Irish wire strung harp, bandura, Appalachian dulcimer, ukelele and mandolin.
